Amid the chaos, Frollo enters the church. Not to be denied Esmeralda's life, Frollo incites the nobles to deny sanctuary, and the beggars, concerned for the girl's safety, storm the church. As Esmeralda is marched to die on the gallows, Quasimodo leaps from the building above and carries her to the sanctuary of the church. Esmeralda is arrested for the crime, and Frollo, claiming that the girl had bewitched him with the power of Satan, demands her life. Frollo lusts after Esmeralda, however, and, unable to tolerate her love for Phoebus, kills his rival.
There, she saves the life of the poet Gringoire by consenting to take him as her husband, although she truly loves the soldier Phoebus. Frollo, who is Quasimodo's guardian, orders the hunchback to take the girl captive, and Esmeralda, terrified, escapes to the underworld of Clopin and his beggars. When the lovely gypsy dancer Esmeralda is threatened by the King's men, she seeks refuge in a church, Notre Dame, where she meets the grotesque hunchback Quasimodo. Frollo, the King's high justice, exploits these evils, persecuting the gypsies and opposing any mode of progress. This game contains the voices and songs from the movie, and is emceed by the hand puppet, Clopin.Ignorance, cruelty and superstition pervade France of the fifteenth century. Players can choose to compose a tune on the bells with the gargoyles to cheer Quasimodo up, balance the number of chickens on the tightrope walker's bar, listen and sing along with a number of French tunes, help Quasimodo carry Esmerelda down the side of Notre Dame cathedral, help Quasimodo and Phoebus find the gypsies secret hideout by unlocking the key of Esmerelda's necklace, or help the gargoyles defend the cathedral by dropping crates on the soldier's heads. The story follows that of the movie, and includes six games that can either be played during the course of the story, or separately.
You are unlikely to replay more than a few times.ĭisney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame Animated Storybook features the traditional characters of Quasimodo, Esmerelda, Frollo, and Phoebus, as well as the Disney-introduced characters of the Gargoyles Hugo, Victor and Laverne. Replay Value: Too easy games and annoying narration make this game a waste of time and money. Graphics: Nice, as with all Disney games.Įnjoyment: It is enjoyable the first time through, but it's more annoying than amusing after the first time.
